AC ST. LOUIS POUND MONTREAL 3-0

ST. LOUIS, MO (July 10, 2010) – AC St. Louis, playing in the USSF Division 2 Pro League, beat the Montreal Impact 3-0 on Saturday night at The Anheuser-Busch Soccer Park in front of 2,307. The win propelled AC St. Louis into playoff contention for the first time this season as they upped their record to 3-8-3 for 12 points. The win was also the first for Dale Schilly as head coach.

“It has been coming, hopefully we can maintain it,” said Schilly. “The guys are just different. The mentality is different. They are eager, they are learning, and they are showing a different approach. The other night in Vancouver we went up 1-0 and tried to hold on for 20 minutes. Tonight they went out and found the second and third goals to kill off the game.”

Luke Kreamalmeyer, Chris Salvaggione, and Jeff Cosgriff provided the offensive firepower on a night that saw AC St. Louis break out for three goals for the first time in franchise history. Goalkeeper Alec Dufty and the St. Louis backline held Montreal scoreless. The defense allowed just five shots, only two of which required a save from Dufty, as they posted their fifth shutout in the last eight matches.

AC St. Louis’ first quality chance came in the 40th minute when Chris Salvaggione made a run towards the right of the goal. Salvaggione crossed and Gauchinho just inside in the 18-yard box. Gauchinho took one touch to settle before striking a shot. Luke Kreamalmeyer inadvertently blocked Gauchinho’s effort as he scrambled to get out of the way.

Head Coach Dale Schilly wasted no time getting fresh legs onto the field. Starters Hagop Chirishian and Alex Titton were subbed for in the 33rd and 42nd minute respectively. Chris Salvaggione and Elvir Kafedzic were brought in to try and establish a more sustainable AC attack. The move nearly paid off as Salvaggione pushed forward to set up Gauchinho’s chance. AC St. Louis finished the first half outshooting Montreal 5-3, including two shots on goal, but were not able to find a first half opener as both teams went to the interval at 0-0.

Chris Salvaggione gave Dale Schilly exactly what he was looking for in the 57th minute when he put AC St. Louis ahead with a spectacular bicycle kick that cleanly beat Srdjar Djekanovic, The goal originated from a corner kick that Luke Kreamalmeyer floated to the back post. Mark Bloom kept it alive with a touch back into the middle where Anthony O’Garro headed it towards goal only to have it cleared off the line my Montreal’s Leonardo Dilorenzo. The clearance though fell to a waiting Salvaggione who immediately left his feet for the bicycle attempt that found the back of the net.

AC St. Louis was not done scoring. Five minutes later a forward rush would see four St. Louis players take touches to the ball before Luke Kreamalmeyer was able to slot home a final touch inside the penalty area. Salvaggione, Gauchinho, and finally Elvir Kafedzic were in on the build up.

“At first I thought Elvir was going to take a shot,” said Kreamalmeyer. “He touched me a nice ball instead and I was through and in. I just went for the back post and thankfully it went in.”

St. Louis would add a third in the 78th minute when Jeff Cosgriff scorched a shot from 26 plus yards. Luke Kreamalmeyer provided the setup as St. Louis firmly took control of the match and killed off the game.

AC St. Louis next returns home on Saturday July 28 match against the Portland Timbers. Tickets are still available and can be obtained by calling 1-888-STL-GOAL, or by visiting www.ac-stlouis.com.
