Last Weeks Game vs NSC Minnesota Stars
The game is a game a moments and Minnesota was better than we were in the moments that determine the outcome of the game. We felt that for the first 20 minutes of the game, we were the better side and created the better scoring opportunities. But a bad service, a poor first touch or the wrong decision kept us from getting on the board first.
The first goal in the game is critical and we felt the pressures of giving up the first goal as Minnesota finished a great goal. Our response to their goal was good as we came out strong for the next 5-7 minutes, but again, they were better in the moment that they needed to be and went up with the second goal. From that point, we chased the game and just could not get it right. Despite all of the hard work from the players, our touch was rough and our timing was off.
This week Austin Aztecs
Austin is a good team and a very difficult opponent. Austin brings a big athletic team that is very well organized and has some special players. They will press the heck out of us and give us very little room to play and they are athletic enough to deal with long balls played over top of them. Their forwards are very fast and hardworking and their wide players are athletic. There is a reason they are one of the top teams in the league.
There are similarities between Austin and AC St. Louis. This is Austin’s second year in the league. Last year Austin ended the season with 5 wins. The program then evaluated their mission and established a plan on how to better compete this year. A story that I hope will be similar to ours.
Our character will be tested tonight. Can we bounce back from a poor performance last week and turn things around this week? To this point the players have shown an amazing amount of character and resilience. I hope that we see this characteristic on display again tonight.
