Titton Arrives
ST. LOUIS, MO (April 15, 2009) – Brazilian forward Alex Titton has arrived to join AC St. Louis in training camp in preparation for Saturday night’s home opener against the Austin Aztex. Titton arrived on Wednesday and was able to observe his new teammates going through their daily practice routine.
Titton, 19, was signed in February by AC St. Louis along with two other Brazilians, Cassiano and Gauchinho, who will join the club shortly. Titton most recently played for the Brazilian team EC Sao Jose. Before becoming a professional he spent his developing years as an academy player for the famous Gremio club in Porto Alegre, whom he played with for five seasons. Titton then moved to Internacional, also in Porto Alegre, as an academy player where he played for one year. Titton spent the past two years with EC Sao Jose playing in the reserve ranks as a 17 and 18-year old.
“St. Louis is nice. I have gotten a good reception here,” said Titton. “To be here with Francisco Filho and with Claude Anelka is wonderful for me. Now, I am hoping to help my new teammates win games.”
“I have known Titton for two years, and first met him in Brazil where I watched him play,” stated Head Coach Claude Anelka. “He is a skillful player with good technique. He keeps his play simple, he has good touch, and he is good in the air. Right now he needs to play to get fit, so he will be on our bench Saturday night as a substitute.”
Titton has also trialed at Tottenham Hotspur in London, England for a period of five months. Spurs were unable to offer him a contract, and when the chance arose Anelka invited Titton to come to AC St. Louis.
“Being at Tottenham was a good experience for me,” said Titton. “I got to train a lot with the players, and work with them.”
Alex Titton is set to debut for AC St. Louis’ home opener on Saturday night against the Austin Aztex. Game time is 7:10 at The Anheuser-Busch Soccer Park. Tickets are still available by calling 1-888-STL-GOAL.
